“THE ART OF REMEMBERING”:
SEPT 2021: MUSEO HERMANN NITSCH, NAPLES, ITALY

On Sept 21-Oct 5, 2021, 11 artists travelled to Naples, Italy, journeying down the rabbit hole. Working with Fondazione Morra, Samina created and directed a 14 day international residency program, poetic journey and process-based collective experience for her collective “the rabbit hole.”

The program was designed as a performative research, with a scripted dramaturgy, framed around saturation and desaturation days, aimed to provoke and disorient, while, at the same time, providing a space for the artists to wander, to gaze, “to see through.” Designed as a metaphorical labyrinth, where each artist is lead down the rabbit hole, embarking on their own poetical journey of self-introspection; deconstructing, and discovering their collective blank canvas.

Throughout the past decade, Samina has investigated within the world of playful mysticism interrogating notions of the invisible, subliminal codes, and “the secret gaze.”

In this work, the artists are voyagers, the path is unknown and certain games are designed to awaken their curiosities. Naples is proposed as wonderland transforming itself into a looking glass, where '"the labyrinth of mirrors" and "the secret gaze" sessions took place.

In June 2021, the work was presented at Borderscapes, a seminar program held at the University of Naples, L’Orientale, Post Colonial and Gender Studies department.
